Hi ensemble,

Update for our cip on tuesday!!

Its gonna be a MEGA origami session!!

But some things to note, NO phototaking. sorry guys i know the children are gonna be very cute but its the home's policy cause its protection for their kids.

And dont try to secretly take pictures of them cause there are cameras around the place. -.-

It's the home's rules so hope you all understand. :)

Also, we are expected to be mature young adults. I know we will have fun but we got to be sane in front of the children okay, some things cannot say in front of them like foul language etc and cannot play among ourselves and ignore them. Must shower them with love and care kay~

So after talking with the person-in-charge there, we have changed plans slightly.

we need to meet their objectives and so...

It's gonna be a MEGA origami session! so dont really need to like bring guitar or play songs already but we'll just bring one guitar along and play background music or something.

Okay the objective in mind is that:

We want to teach the kids that even though origami is only a piece of paper, it is able to fold into many different types of things, meaning that even the smallest of things can become something big, nice and significant. We also want to teach the children teamwork, that it requires everyone's effort to create something nice together. So we will all interact with the kids with these objectives in mind kay.

There will be about 28 children max so they will be split into 3 different groups.

The first group is from 4-7 years old.

The second group is 8-12 years old GIRLS.

& the third group is 8-12 years old BOYS.

So we will split into 3 groups as well, which is our section in three parts one (meaning guitar 1, guitar 2 & guitar 3 each individually as a group, there will be no guitar 4)

Guitar 1 will take the 4-7 years old while guitar 2 will take the 8-12 years old girls and guitar 3 will take 8-12years old boys.

We will fold different origami per group and after every group fold theirs already, we will stick their different origami on a vanguard sheet.

So for guitar 1,

We will fold easier things since the kids are younger.

so for your own section, i want you all to learn as many as you can and hopefully all ten.

if some kids cant learn all its okay just teach them patiently and finish as many as you can.

for these few days i hope you all can learn kay thats why i find the link of every animal etc for you all to follow. all of you are expected to learn it, it will be fun :)

SLs (of the 3 part section) will be overall in charge of the section kay so make sure you all know all ten and most importantly, please print out the instructions cause im sure you all cant memorise how to fold all ten. :)

i will buy origami paper for all the kids but maybe tmr or something if you have time you can go popular and buy and start trying to fold its very cheap, 55cents per pack so yepp.

after you fold, please keep some folded ones so that we can bring them to let the kids see.

the cip on tues is from 10 to 12 noon so we will all meet at 9.15am at dover mrt. wear half u with house shirt or college tee or guitar shirt shirt also can. after cip we will go for lunch before going back to school for practice from 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

Also, keep 28 of dec free as we will have practice from 8am to 5pm. I know it sounds long but im sure we will have breaks in between and Mr Choo is coming for both practices on the 27 and 28 dec so full attendance is expected kay.

The full day practice is to make up for the lack of practices in Dec and also because we have to prepare for the open house on 11th of Jan and for our competition next year.

Hi ensemble,

There will be holiday practices every Mon and Thurs, from 9-11.30am.

It sectionals, so sectional leaders please ask around your section to see which date more of your members will be able to make it.

You only need to go for sectionals ONCE a week so either on monday OR thursday.

So each section please arrange to go down for practice on the day which most of your members can make it.

All those in Singapore are required to attend practice unless you have valid reasons.

SLs, please take note which days your section is going back for sectionals every week and tell me or queenie.

This is to let you all take the time off from your busy schedule to practice the guitar and also for you all to practice together as a section.

Attendance will be taken. But for this following week, sectionals will be on TUES or thurs instead of mon or thurs and monday may be too short notice for some of you.

TPJC is being so surprisingly nice and is offering us subsidized tickets to watch The Lion King at Marina Bay Sands Theatre.

' Tampines Junior College is pleased to offer to the students in your performing arts CCA subsidized tickets to watch The Lion King at Marina Bay Sands Theatre. We are offering category three tickets priced at S$168. However the student need only to pay S$30 for these tickets. The show would be on Saturday 27 August, 2pm or Saturday 3 Sep, 2pm depending on availability.'

Yep the Lion King im talking about is the one they advertised on tv!

It would be good for you all to go, its a great session for bonding and its really very cheap!

Also, seats are limited so its based on a first come first serve basis.

Hi ensemble,

As most of you already know, CCA will be cut down to once a week, taking place from this week onwards until further notice.

Therefore practices will always be on Wednesdays and practices on Friday will be CANCELLED. This is in view of our upcoming examinations and the reduced time in CCA is meant for you to spend more time studying and preparing yourself for promos. Therefore please plan your time wisely and study hard! :)

Practices on Wednesdays will now always start at 2.30pm till about 6.30pm, depending on Mr Choo. Also please remember to bring your scores and you are advised to get a file to slot them in as there will be more to come.

To those with irregular attendance, please do come for practice from now onwards as we will be learning Christmas songs for our Christmas CIP which we plan to have on tentatively the second week of December therefore please do keep that week free. Also as now practice is only once a week, we would need as much practice as we can get, to be prepared for our Christmas CIP. Further details on the Christmas CIP will be confirmed at a later date.

Also, CCA will stand down soon in view of preparation for promos and it will only resume after PW and A level Mother Tongue Paper which will be a long way and thus I hope you'll see the need for why we will need as much practice as we can if we still wish for a Christmas CIP.

After listening to your feedback, we decided that you all could leave your guitars in the guitar room on Wednesdays after practice. However, you cannot leave your guitar in school over the weekend and would have to bring it home on Fridays. Also, you cannot leave your guitars in school during competition/concert periods as everyone would definitely need additional practice. Those who are aware that they are lagging behind would also be highly encouraged to bring their guitar home after every practice. However since there is only practice once a week now, i guess this wouldn't apply to this term.

Also, sections will be allocated as soon as possible, hopefully by this week or lastest by next week.

Any other comments please feel free to approach Queenie or I as your feedback are greatly appreciated. We thank you for your understanding and hope to see more of you for practices.

Hi JC1s,

Please note that there will be NO practice this Friday due to Edurace and Humanities Week. Practice resumes next wednesday.

The June handover camp will be help from the 7-8 June. Please email me,Issac by Friday night whether you are able to make it for the camp.

You MUST email irregardless of whether you will be attending the camp or not. Consent forms will be issued at a later date.

We will also release the camp groupings on Sunday night. Please check your groupings before Wednesday's practice.

You will be given about an hour during practice on wed to do a 'group flag'. We will provide you with a board and construction papers.

Please bring your own art materials eg. Scissors, glue etc on wed as well. Please also bring $20 (or $15 for some of you) on wed for the camp+guitar tee.

Next practice is on 25 May, Wed from 3-6pm. Please check back the blog for further details on where to assemble at a closer date.

We will provide the slivery white eyeshadow, loose powder.

If you need help with your make up and hair, please report sharp at 6.30am. we have to complete all these 'preparation work' by 7am and do our warm ups.

If you know how to, bun your hair at home before coming. If not, come with your hair tied up in a ponytail with those black thin elastic rubber band and bring your net for the hair bun, we'll help you with it.

Hi all JC1s!

As you all know, the JC2s will be taking part in the Annual Guitar Ensemble Competition this year organised by our conductor, Mr Terence Choo.

I hereby invite you people to come watch this competition! :D

This would be a very good exposure chance for you will also be taking part in this annual guitar competition next year too! It will also allow you to be exposed to more guitar ensemble music so that you'll know how and what a guitar ensemble actually sound like.

Apart from hearing just our school, you will also get to hear ensembles from other secondary schools and JCs such as SAC, ACJC, SRJC, YJC etc.

I strongly encourage you people to come and watch this! You can treat this as a bonding session with your new-found cca mates as well!

4th Annual GEC that took place last year

Venue: Yishun Junior College, Auditorium

Ticket Fee: $6 per person

As places are limited, it will be on first come first serve basis. We are not too sure how many seats will be allocated to us yet, but we will try to let everyone that wants to go if possible.

2010-2011 Rules and Regulations

LATECOMING

Members are expected to be seated and tuned up 5 minutes before given practice time.

Penalty for late coming is paying back with practice after CCA hours

Penalty will be equal amount of time doing finger exercises.

E.g. Late for 5 minutes will mean staying back for 5 minutes doing finger exercise given by P/CM/VP/SL.

Exceptions only for valid reasons, excluding consultation.

Members whose lesson end just before practice starts at given a grace

period of 15 minutes to grab a bite before practice.

ATTENDANCE

Report to the secretary for attendance at the start of every practice

Inform Section Leaders if you’re unable to be present for CCA, so as to facilitate the marking of attendance

Submit all relevant documents on the next practice to the Secretary.

Parents’ letter will be reviewed on a case-to-case basis.

LOGISTICS

Approach the QMs for any loan of instruments. Loaning of any instrument MUST be recorded.

Any loss or damage to the instrument/equipment is to be reported to the QM. Fine will be imposed according to degree of damage.

Non-ensemble members are not allowed to play any of the instruments in the guitar room (i.e drumset) unless permission has been issued by the teachers-in-charge

Non-ensemble members can RENT instruments, e.g. drum sets, at a given rate.

For more information, please approach QMs or P.

No entering of storeroom unless permission has been granted by the EXCO.

Approach QMs or CM for usage of combo band instruments.

PLACEMENT OF BELONGINGS

All shoes must be placed on the racks neatly.

Bags are to be placed at the shelves

Guitars are to be taken home every weekend and NOT to be placed in the guitar room. A rental fee of $1 per day will be charged if you are to keep your guitar in the room.

*note: We are not responsible if your guitars are lost/stolen if you were to keep it in the room.

ANY OTHER MATTERS

You are to photocopy your own scores in the event of misplacing your scores.

All payments are to be made to the treasurer after practice only.

All are expected to be back in ensemble formation within 3 minutes, otherwise, the last section will have their sectionals outside the guitar room on the next practice.

I’m Terence Choo, music director for guitar ensembles. Here is a short note for those who plan to own a guitar. Please feel free to shop around on your own as well if you have other brands in mind, Owning a guitar is strongly recommended but it is not a must.

Why own a guitar?

To learn an instrument, it is essential that the student has access to the instrument on a daily basis to enable regular practice and skill development. The guitar is one of the most popular and affordable instruments to own. It costs much less that of many other instruments such as the piano and violin. Students who own a guitar a practice regularly tend to achieve success in their playing and learn the required skills more quickly than those who have limited access to the guitar.

Owning a guitar is strongly recommended. The following is the price list for the available packages.

All packages come with a soft case and is fully equipped with all necessary guitar accessories;

The digital metronome is also an essential item but it is currently out of stock. The typical price ranges $20-$38 for a digital metronome. I have been obtaining guitars and supplies from Sports & Music Theme for myself and my students as they have very good after sales service and offer products that are value for money.

Hey Guitarists

Our sound has made quite an improvement over the last 3 practices. Especially Jalousie! Props to everyone for that! I know it has been a hard week, but there will be more weeks like this, so prepare yourself!

Oh, I would like to welcome the new J1s, and hope that all of you will enjoy your time in the ensemble!

On Wednesday, our sound was quite appalling I must say, everyone was merely plucking strings, the sound we made had no emotion, phrasing and some of us have yet to master the two songs. We must really try our best to memorize the songs as soon as possible, I know it is really hard with the many tests we are having.

However, I was pleasantly surprised with the progress we had on Friday and today. And, on the extended finger exercises, we all know our finger dexterity needs working on, thus please practice all the finger exercises, it will greatly help you in your playing ability and also increase the pace when learning a new piece.

This is Gavotte played on the cello, its worth a good listen!

And, this is the 2007 SYF batch's version of Gavotte.

2 things to note over the weekends, and before the next practice.

1. Try to improve your dexterity.
2. Remember all the articulation
and the two distinct sound difference in Jalousie and Gavotte.

Enjoy the music, have a great weekend, let's give a warm welcome to the new Guitarists on Wednesday, and all the best to those still taking tests next week!

This year will be a really special year for our ensemble because we have our SYF competition and our A levels exam in the same year. HOW EXCITING!? SYF period will be kinda tough with all those practices as well as coping with all the tests and homework. But WE CAN DO IT. Definitely man!!!!
Upcoming events will also include our cca open house, WE WILL HAVE TO POACH MANY PEOPLE TO JOIN US!!! its the time for you to scream and shout!!!! then we have our annual camps and syf.

But whatever it is, we must all try to have fun!!! AS we are all in this TOGETHER!!!

Do on the 2nd position, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th... until the 9th position where your pinkie is on the 12th fret. :)

The aim here is to improve the strength of your pinkie and ring finger, there is no need to rush, try to play as cleanly as possible, without any buzzing sounds.

After being able to play it cleanly, then start increasing your speed.

Combo Band

Hey Ensemble!!

For our batch, we can't have many Combo Bands. This is because of the SYF year and also time constrain during the concert next year. Thus, we will be limiting the Combo Bands to 1 or maybe 2. Those interested, please try to tell me as early as possible. You'll have to go through an auditioning which will most probably be conducted by Mr Choo, Issac and Me.

I would like to remind you all that the Drum Set, Electronic Guitars are only to be used AFTER PRACTICE. We have to be considerate as classes may still be going on at around 2-3pm+ around the J block.

And also, I've come up with the section allocation and seating arrangement already. It will be finalized shortly. ;)

I hope that all of you will support the decisions. Remember GWH!! :)

June Camp Details

Hi J1s,

I've sent out the details for the camp next week via tpjc.net. The camp is a 3 days day camp from 7th to 9th June. There are different reporting time everyday, so please check carefully. Please note that attendance is compulsory and absence has to be verified with a MC or a photocopy of your travel documents (if you're going overseas).

The objective of this camp is to identify your new Exco leaders, so please participate actively in this camp, and also, it's your chance to get to know your fellow ensemble members. :)

I've attached 2 files on tpjc.net message.

#1 The details of the camp schedule, pack list and your camp groupings (please check, and group leaders, you are to rally your group together and come up with a cheer for your group. Points will be awarded for good cheers. Make use of the interview time slots, like before the official start of the camp to discuss with your group on the cheers)

#2 Exco Interview Slots - All interviews are held before the official start of the camp days, so please check for the timing that you are required to report for your interview and on which day, note that latecomers will not be entertained (you shdn't be late for an interview anyway, it'll reflect badly on you, common sense aye) yeah, so please do ensure you come at least 10 mins before your slot! Don't be tongue-tied, just say what you think will present yourself best, be confident and sure of what you want! :D

Here are important instructions to follow before you come for prac on Wednesday. Remember if everyone takes responsibility and do what is told (be punctual etc), we can all get things done really faster.

For the Main Ensemble:
IMPT ANNOUNCEMENT: You do not need to bring your performing attire on Wed. We have decided not to do a full-dress to save time. However, please bring $4 for your lunch on the concert day itself.

Before you come on Wednesday, please ensure you have done the following:

1. Arrange your scores in a black file, according to this arrangement:

You will be receiving an UPDATED concert sequence and seating plan (pls ensure that it is filed in your file by Friday)
You are to collect your guitars, and bring the music stands, scores and whatever you need to the Auditorium. Everyone should be seated on stage by 3pm in the audi. Means you have to GET READY by 2.45pm, so that you can move to the audi and be seated by 3pm.
By the end of wednesday's prac, you should have discussed with the person sitting beside you on whose file to use on the actual concert, etc.
If you have NAPFA on Wednesday, please inform your SLs and Wanzhen.
All small group players, please ensure that you are FULLY prepared for concert, I don't want any time wasted on correcting mistakes, but rather it's for you to get familiar with the environment and sound check.
Combo Bands and Reminisce Romance, please note that you guys have to come even earlier on Wednesday to shift the drumsets, electric guitars, piano to the audi. You are to ensure that the instruments that you need are present!

J1s,

please note the following.

1) Attire check has been postponed to Tuesday, anytime from 3-6pm in the guitar room. Just pop by and let me see your shoes, tie, full black top and pants, and you can go after that! :)

2) Please ensure that you bring a black file that contains your Blue Moon, Can't help falling in love scores. I will do a file check on Wednesday.

3) Remember, you are to report to the guitar room at 3pm on Wednesday for practice. Do not go to the classrooms.

4) You are to return all unsold tickets to Shanen on Wednesday, and also, payment of those tickets that you have sold.

5) Practice on Wednesday is going to end very late, latest 8pm for you. Please try to co-operate with us, so that if everyone moves faster, listens and all, we can all end earlier.

6) Please make the effort to practise CHFIL and Blue Moon before you turn up for practice. If you have any queries, please feel free to come early to the guitar room on Wed morning before assembly and approach the SLs.

7) You will receive your seating plan and an UPDATED concert sequence on Wednesday.

8) I expect full attendance for the whole of next week, if you're not coming, you are to inform us in advance.

9) People who are involved in council commitments, I would like you to consider whether you want to play for the concert, or to be involved in the administrative duties of the concert instead as I've noticed you haven't been around for practices, so I'm not sure if you're able to catch up. These people, please let me know asap.

10) Please bring your own tuners and MUSIC STANDS next week as we do not have enough to cater to everyone! Label your music stands please, to avoid any confusion!

Hi ensemble,

For the benefit of those who weren't around today, here's the practice timing for next week.

Wednesday (19 May) - 3-9pm

There'll be a 75 mins break for dinner.

I understand that most J2s are having bio spa, physics spa, math test, chem test, napfa etc, but really, we've tried our best to fit into the schedule within our given situation.

So, I sincerely apologised for the inconvenience caused. But I hope, everyone will better prepare yourselves for your tests in advance, and not use the long rehearsal time as excuse of not doing well (cos you shdn't be!)

Also, I really seek your FULLEST co-operation during rehearsals next week, so long as we act fast (don't talk in betw pieces or when someone is giving instructions), we really all chiong together as one, we can all get things WAY faster, and get more rest. And also, I really appreciate FULL ATTENDANCE, so as to make our life easier.

You're busy, I'm busy, everyone is busy, but lets all get this final act together for the J2s, and for the J1s, a platform for you to observe, and it's your turn to organise the next time round.

Practice begins at 2pm sharp this Friday, 14th May for everyone. Please bring your guitar supports.
SLs to report at 1pm if your lessons have ended by then.

Main Ensemble, you are reminded to bring your performing attire (full black attire, tie, black court shoes, long black socks for guys) for college day.

There will be college day rehearsal on Friday.

For the benefit of those who have missed out the briefing this morning, here goes some of the key points.

Please get your performing attire by Monday, 17th may. Full black attire, with yellow/orange/red silky tie, black court shoes. We will be conducting an attire check in the morning.
We need 2 volunteers for emcees. The 2 emcees would not be required to play any pieces. You should be an enthusiastic and vocal person. If you feel that you are unable to cope with the pieces due to whatever reason and can't work within the time limit (your other commitments in another cca or etc), you may wish to consider emcee-ing for this concert. Please submit your names to Dominic Soh (09S27) or Tan Ziying (09S10) by Friday via online message if interested.
We need 35 volunteers for stage crews, ushers, ticket booth managers. So please volunteer your service. You are to submit your names to Chng Xiong Hao Eugene (09S24) by Friday, via online message as well.
You will not be playing YRMU, but you will be playing CHFIL the easier version, you are to complete the song within 90 mins on Friday, so, when the seniors are not around due to college day rehearsal, please make sure you focus on the piece. You should be able to finish the piece within 90 mins, trust me, it's much easier than Blue Moon.
There will be a combined J1 and J2 rehearsal at 415pm on Friday. You are advised to bring your own music stands as there isn't enough to go round for everyone.
You are to sell your 2 vivace tickets by next Wednesday. If you require more, please feel free to inform Shanen Soh (09S20).

Vivace! Attire and Updates

HI everyone,

We’ve been all busy with our College Day rehearsals that we hadn’t had the time to have a combined rehearsal with both J1s and J2s, but don’t worry, we’ll definitely have one on Friday, 14th May, hopefully the schedule does not get disrupted.

There are many issues to raise, so please bear with me and read what’s relevant for you.
Main Ensemble

VIVACE! PREP.
You have all your concert pieces, so please try to spend like 15 mins everyday to look through them, especially those difficult parts. When you practise, don’t play the whole piece, just zoom in on your weak areas. We have only 2 practices left to Vivace! (you shouldn’t count the Vivace week as it’s all rehearsals, and thus, you should be able to play perfectly for rehearsal, isn’t it?), so let us all take responsibility in our playing, and play properly, so that we don’t have to waste precious time during ensemble to correct certain basic mistakes like wrong fret or rhythm etc.

To aid you in learning your pieces, please watch the following (it will help you much better, really).

Please also be reminded that there IS practice on Saturday, 15th may after the college day rehearsal, so all in all, it’ll be a long Saturday for us, from 830am to 4pm.

We will also work on expression again, I know the feeling is gone playing your 2 competition pieces, haha, but your audience are listening it for the first time, at least for most, so I hope all of you, as performers, deliver your best everytime you play it.

Anyway, I would encourage you to memorise most of your pieces. Memorising will aid you alot in looking up at the conductor also. I can’t emphasise enough of looking up, as most of you tend to speed because you are looking down most of the time, so please, look up. The audience wants to see your face, not your hair.

Administrative side, here’s the confirmed number of tickets you have to sell each. Everyone in the main ensemble would need to sell 6 tickets. It’s your last performance, so try to get all your friends and family to attend. :) Tickets are selling at $6, and will be released next week.

COLLEGE DAY
Please bring your performing attire on Friday, 14th May. That includes your tie and shoes. Guys, please remember what the teachers commented about your socks. Girls, please pin up your fringe. We’ll do attire check and hair check on Saturday morning itself.

VIVACE!
We’ll be having your first combined rehearsal for about an hour on Friday with the Main Ensemble, please be mentally prepared that it’ll be a tight squeeze. We’ll try to think of a possible venue that can fit all 100 people.

Anyway, keep practising your Blue Moon.
Here’s perhaps a bad news or maybe a good news for some. After much discussion with some of the SLs, we’ve decided that you all will not perform YRMU with the Main Ensemble as there isn’t time to perfect the piece before Vivace. We always seek to perform the best quality music to our audience, and not some piece that we are not confident of right?

Yup, but don’t worry J1s, you’ll have your CIP performance up very soon in June, so, you’ll get to perform some other pieces too. By the way, each of you will need to sell 2 tics for Vivace! So you can start promoting. :)

Violinist and pianist for YRMU, please scroll up and listen to the soundtrack. Apart from getting your notes right, you can play it more emotionally, more feel. Don’t be in a rush, your tempo should be adagio.

Also J1s, you’ll need to get full black attire for Vivace and your subsequent performances for this year. PLAIN black LONG-SLEEVE blouse/shirt with PLAIN black pants and black court shoes, with SOLID RED/YELLOW/AMBER ORANGE tie.

If you have seen the Main Ensemble’s hot pink tie, yes your tie should be of that ‘hot’ solid colour. We leave it up to you as to whether you want to get red/yellow/orange, yup strictly just these 3 colours. You will need to get your attire by 17 May, Monday. We will be doing an attire check on that day.

Vivace! : Emcees

Hi J1s,

We are in need of 2 volunteers for our upcoming concert, Vivace! by NEXT WEDNESDAY.

For those with experience, we do recommend you volunteer yourselves.
For those WITHOUT experience, do volunteer yourselves for the exposure and a once in a lifetime experience to be an Emcee for TPJCGE's 2010 Vivace! concert.

If there are only 2 volunteers, then there will no auditions, meaning these 2 volunteers will automatically become the Emcees.
If there are more than 2 volunteers, there will be an audition. A section of the script will be provided for the audition.

Do take not that if there are no or only one volunteer, the remaining person will be handpicked by the i/c's of Vivace!

Do drop a message via TPJC.net to either Dominic (09S27) or Zi Ying (09S10) if any of you should decide to volunteer yourselves.

Main Ensemble
Good job for Yesterday Once More today, glad that everyone managed to complete the piece. The next piece that we'll focus on is You Raise Me Up, I hope we'll complete it on Friday. Give your 100% attention to it, and you'll be able to learn it during the practice time itself.

Once we learn YRMU and BEW, tadah we're done for our concert repertoire, and all we need to do is just to polish up and rehearse all the stage movement. It's our last concert, it's your last time playing in the ensemble as well, so I hope everyone gives in their best during practice time.

I hear improvement for Blue Moon, but we need to work harder for greater improvement since time is running out.

Just a gentle reminder that our Vivace! rehearsals would be greatly affected by the J2 guys taking the NAPFA test during the Vivace! week, so lets make sure we polish our pieces up early.

Please make full use of sectionals to practise and not wander off (fill up your bottles or visit the washroom BEFORE prac instead of going it DURING prac), alot of precious practice time has been wasted due to movement and all, and I really hope everyone can squeeze out every second in making sure you can play during ensemble, and not come in off-beat or can't catch up.

Lastly, please remember to bring your full-black attire, pink tie and black court shoes this coming Wednesday for full dress rehearsal. Be IN YOUR FULL BLACK ATTIRE AND SEATED IN THE GUITAR ROOM BY 245pm, which means you should be changing beforehand. SLs, please change before the SL training, which means, change by 1.30pm (or 2pm if you end late). Latecoming policy applies.

People who have not purchased the pink ties, don't worry, we'll be ordering for you, please note that your blouse and pants should be the same as people who went for the competition (please check with them). PLAIN BLACK BLOUSE. You can purchase it from G2000.

We need to speed up the pace of learning, we'll start on peer teaching this Wednesday, meaning the MB/GRM will teach the BMT. Coming friday, will be your first combined session with the Main Ensemble. If your seniors are not around to teach you due to college day rehearsals, please take the initiative and lead to get your whole group to play together, especially for those who are applying for Exco, you ought to take initiative and lead right? :)

Sectional Leaders

• Ensure that your section is good in playing as well as technical development

Remember like I've said, it's time to step out of your comfort zone people, challenge yourself, try leading people, and as I've said, the people elected are the ones who will lead your entire batch to our 1st in next year's competition again, and your GWH for SYF. :) Stress hur, but no, I'm not trying to stress you out, but my point is, you REALLY want people who are absolutely good role models and leaders to bring the ensemble to greater heights.

Also, be bold and think of what you are really capable of, go ahead and apply. Don't be shy and try to be humble, a leader should be certain of his/her capabilities as to whether he/she can take up the position.

Main Ensemble,

this week has been rather relaxing, as it's just the aftermath of competition. However, next week, we're back to strict quality music. Lots of polishing work needed.

On the other hand, as you all know we have $250 to use for celebration, if you have any suggestions on what you guys wanna do for celebration, please feel free to suggest. And also, the celebration would be some sort like a farewell for the J2s. So, if you have suggestions to well, make the celebration a big bang to the end of your JC CCA, then do let any of the Exco know or leave a tag! It will be held likely the week of our concert or after our concert.

J1s,

We have just 6 practices to our concert, Vivace! You will be informed of your section allocation on Wednesday. Also, we're also in need of 2 Emcees for our concert. If any of you are interested or have emcee experience, please volunteer yourself and let me know asap. We would really appreciate your help.

Also, the month of may to june would be the selection process for The Executive Committee 2010-2011. You will be briefed on how the selection process goes on Wednesday (so I hope all of you will be present, if by any chance, you have the sports heat, just see if you can try to excuse yourself to attend the briefing as it is very important), I would urge you people to really take up the challenge, step out of your comfort zone, and lead the ensemble! More information regarding leadership positions will be put up after Wednesday.

All J2s (yes including non-competition group) and J1 Main Ensemble, please report to the guitar room at 230pm tomorrow, as college day rehearsal starts at 2.45pm (and we're the first group to perform!). So, we need to be ready by then. If you end at 2.30pm, then please come early in the morning 8-845am to tune up your guitar, and leave it on the chair (in a safe position of course). Practice will end at 6pm latest tomorrow. SLs to come in at 1.30pm to practise El Bimbo!

J1s, the usual lessons for you at 230pm sharp, till 4.30pm. The GRM and MB will receive Blue Moon score tomorrow. Please check the venues that you are to report to on tpjc.net

Hello champion warriors! :)

Aside from the awesome results that we've achieved, I guess the most significant one is the success as a TEAM, and I'm sure many of you would agree with me. Winning as a solo, is just one thing, but the satisfaction you get from the success as a TEAM is indeed overwhelming!

Remember, we all came from different backgrounds, BMT, GRM, main ensemble, MB, we played at different tempos, we couldn't play 2 octaves C major scale, we buzz at every high notes of SA, the G3 couldn't play properly at the entrance of SB, the G1s struggle with gavotte letter A, the G2s tried hard for their SB melody, the G4s trying hard to project with little people, last year November, we attempted only Quien Sera or Que Sera, Sera, the atmosphere of playing in an ensemble was lacking evidently. We totally lacked practice for the whole of last year due to H1N1, but despite many obstacles for the past few months (poor funding etc), we've all conquered and finished the climb!

Aside from the results, the most significant moment was when everyone gathered to say cheers at the fountain, the pre-interval period when some of us went out gathered together and said a silent cheer, and whatsoever. It was those few moments that, well, we may not know each other very well in the ensemble, but still, we came together and supported each other, and I think this is what we really want to see in the ensemble. Supporting each other, coming together.

We've come this far, and I really hope everyone will persevere for one more month to our very own concert, Vivace! to showcase our BEST ENSEMBLE STANDARD to the public, the stage is ours. :)

On the other hand, I'll just like to point out that there is no additional training for Vivace! as I think we would be on schedule in terms of our preparation and also, if everyone co-operates to deliver their best every rehearsal time, I think, we will do fine. Remember, hard work and effort. Every minute of rehearsal time is your effort. If everyone puts in the effort TOGETHER, we can make it TOGETHER. Just like what we've done yesterday. :)

We will be doing El Bimbo, CHFIL, Malaguena on Wednesday, SL training as per normal. There'll also be College day rehearsal on wednesday itself. We're thinking of having celebration on Friday, TBC. I also thank some of you for feedback-ing regarding some areas that the Exco can look into to improve our practice.

You guys have certainly set a high benchmark for your juniors to meet now. :)

Those with school guitar, don't forget, tomorrow, before 7.35am...guitar room.

Dear all,

J1s
I have already sent you all the online message regarding your choice in section allocation. Just in case any of you did not receive the message, please let me know asap, for I mention that it is on a first come first serve basis.

MB group, please prepare GHFS chords and melody as well as the C major (closed position, no open strings) scale for the next practice. GRM, prepare Allegro at a faster tempo as well as the Blues bass line for the next practice. BMT, please remember to memorise what Mr Lee told you all.

Remember, your goal is to be able to play your first ensemble piece for Vivace! so you need to ensure you have a good foundation before you attempt the piece.

Main Ensemble
There will be practice on Monday (12/4) at 4pm as we did not have full attendance today. I appeal to everyone to be present for all practices next week, as it's our FINAL run through. It is a waste of time to keep rehearsing and repeating just because some people miss out previous practices, so I really hope that everyone attends all the practices next week so that no one will be blur on what to do!

HIII boys and girls,

Please refer to your tpjc.net accounts for the schedule till Mid-April, especially the competition people (tuesdays are individual learning days, where you come in and leave if you've passed). Please also remember to memorise the 3 competition pieces, we have no time to do memorising during practice time, you have to play your part this long weekend to memorise!

By the way, your ties have arrived! :)

People who are not participating the competition, you will still need to attend practice on Weds & Fris, however, you will follow the J1 timing. Don't forget that you still need to perform for concert!

J1 MB & GRM, there will be more independent practice sessions these 2 weeks as the seniors are preparing for the competition, so do make full use of practice time to practise or complete the tasks assigned by the seniors as you will be receiving your first ensemble score very soon. You need a good foundation in order to attempt the ensemble piece.

J1 BMT, do continue to practise as well and listen to Mr Lee. You will be receiving the ensemble piece at a later date, but this just means you need to put in the double effort for you have a shorter time. But I'm sure Mr Lee will guide you well.

CCA Shirt

Hello Everyone,

This is regarding the ordering of the TPGE Shirt. The design is attached below. (It's all black except for the design, the patches of white in the picture are supposed to be black!)

We've managed to find a supplier and bargained for $10 per shirt. This is reasonably cheap for a printed shirt so hopefully we won't be seeing anymore complaints about the pricing.

The purchase of the shirt is strictly compulsory for all J1s and J2s as we'll be using the shirt for a few events, notably the June Camp and Competition/CIP trips.

If you require any financial assistance please speak to either Jay or Eugene and you'll be referred to the Teachers-in-Charge.

The deadline for the payment of $10.00 is Wednesday 31st March.

Hiiiii Main Ensemble,

Sorry, I forgot to mention this during my announcement. The practices on Mondays are only for competition group.

So for the next 3 Mondays...
29 Mar, 5th Apr and 12th Apr ==> Practice for competition group, 4-630pm.

Tuesdays...
30 Mar, 6th Apr ==> Only for selected people (SLs are to inform you by Monday), 4-630pm. I need all the SLs to be around on 30 Mar, as we need to look at Don't Cry for me Argentina.

Okay, I've mentioned to the SLs already, we're all now working towards 7th April to perfecting our pieces. 7th April is our full dress rehearsal, and like the name itself, it's a rehearsal, you can't be playing with all the buzz and what's not, and you call it a rehearsal right? That's more like a practice. So, that explains the rush. Come prepared on Monday, it'll be intensive drilling! The faster we perfect our pieces, the faster we can reduce the days of additional trainings.

Apart from that, Wednesdays & Fridays are still normal practice days for everyone (competition/non-competition).

Hello everyone.

As you all know, we only have 3 weeks left before the competition. We all are acutely aware that we are no way near our seniors' standards. We may not even be prepared for the competition. Entrances must be polished, rhythm to be consistent, thrills to be mastered, pieces to be memorised, runs to be perfected, feelings to be expressed through the guitar... The list goes on.

But I'll bet all of you - yes, all of you - felt a sense of satisfaction when you guys heard how much we've improved. Remember how well we played Sleepers Awake on Monday? We can only keep improving for we are champions.

We need to have the winning mentality. Whatever we do, we strive towards success. Be it musically or academically, it applies to both. When we set our mind to do something, we are focused and concentrate on giving our 110%. It also boils down to individual effort. The ensemble is nothing when we play separately. We're a GUITAR ENSEMBLE because we have one voice, one sound.

We are in this together, as an ensemble. We cannot be contend with a second position. With so many strong schools entering the fray, it'll be doubly hard to even retain our second position. But if we put in our best efforts, regardless of results, then we can say we have let no one down. We can walk out of VCH with our heads held high. We can proudly walk towards those who came down to support us and give them our thanks.

As for the SLs, I know we need to make a choice between Ballet and Sleepers Awake. I'm sure both pieces have their own merits and pitfalls. But what I want to say is, since we've earlier on decided on Sleepers Awake, why not see through it 'til the end? It is not impossible to play; we all have heard a glimpse of how good we can sound when we have full attendance and everyone concentrating.

Furthermore, I'm sure many of you, if not all, don't want to drop from a H2 to a H1.

We're champions and won't settle for anything less. We've set our sights on a difficult piece, but let's practise hard and hone it to perfection. We can definitely do it.

I just want to give an example of my previous secondary school's band. They've been consistently getting Gold With Honours for SYF and are one of the more recognised outdoor bands in Singapore. Their secret recipe to success is simple.

Hours and hours and hours of practice time.

They have 3-4 practices a week, and sometimes full-day practices on Saturdays. They have to come back to school during holidays to have full-day practices as well. And of course, when the competition nears, they all work their socks off to practise and practise and practise.

I want to reiterate that we have extremely little official practice time left. Individually, we need to practise more at home, memorise our pieces, do technical runs and of course, play with feelings and tonality.

I know that we entered JC to get our As for the A-Levels and we didn't enter JC for Guitar Ensemble. But I want to stress that when we entered guitar ensemble, when we are picked by our SLs to participate in the competition, we have a responsibility to deliver. We have a responsibility to practise, to play, to feel the music.

Honestly, in my own opinion, the way we're playing now, we cannot retain our second position if we do not improve. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. Results don't matter. Yes, we enter the competition with a winning mentality, but a competition isn't just about winning. It's a process.

Winning isn't everything, but we're not putting in enough effort. It is best if we can be sat calmly when the results are announced and no matter what, we're satisfied because we've put in our best, our 110%, all our efforts.

And remember, we're Champions. We practise 'til we can't get it wrong. And Champions don't settle for anything less.

We can do this. We can enter with the mentality to WIN. That will be our winning edge. We have the hunger to win.
